The Design
This TCL’s 8-Series combines stunning 4K HDR and QLED technology in a bold, brushed metal design for a superior TV experience. It sports a clean, contemporary design which is made possible with TCL’s FullView edge-to-edge glass display that blends seamlessly into your viewing experience. A slim profile, dark finish, and distinctive t-pedestal stand lend additional style and sophistication to your home theater.
TCL’s 8-Series also sports narrow bezels around the display and a stripe of brushed aluminum along the bottom of the screen, finished with a gunmetal-gray color that looks quite sophisticated.
The TV bottom chassis skips the usual plain black plastic look and instead is covered in vertical ridges that then blend seamlessly into the ventilation and speaker grills. Also on the back of the set are holes for a VESA wall mount, which will accommodate a standard 300 x 300-millimeter mount.
Display
The TCL 8-Series is the world’s first TV with mini-LED backlight technology. More than 25,000 high-performance mini-LEDs not only brings highly precise local dimming unmatched performance compared with any LED-LCD TV but smooth, uniform and bright illumination. It also features Quantum Contrast which is made of approximately 1,000 control zones, more zones than some of the highest-performance TVs in the market. This greatly improves performance and minimizes unwanted artifacts, such as “halos,” associated with other LED-LCD TVs.

The integrated Roku platform means users get direct access to a huge number of streaming apps, but without needing to connect a separate streaming box or stick. As with past TCL Roku Smart TVs, this model is joined by support for the Roku mobile app, which includes a digital remote control and the ability to listen to content using headphones connected directly to the handset.

One of the best features of the Roku platform is its remote app you can find on both iOS and Android. It’s capable of doing everything that the smart remote found with the P607 can do and more, so it’s quite fully featured. All the basic remote controls are available, even powering the TV on and off. You can plug in headphones to your device and listen to the TV privately through the app as well.
This TCL TV series also support voice controls, hence through voice control, you can launch certain apps, as well as search across multiple apps for content. Unlike some TVs, you can’t control the TV’s settings through the voice controls.
Thanks to the OS you can now turn your smartphone or tablet into a convenient streaming companion. Use it as a remote, plug in headphones for private listening, search with your voice or keyboard, and turn your phone into your very own entertainment guide.
TCL 8-Series ports
Port selection on the 8-Series includes four HDMI ports, including one with ARC support, a single USB port, a cable connector for the TV’s built-in tuner and Ethernet for wired network connectivity. It also has built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi for connecting to your Wi-Fi router. A headphone jack provides audio-out as well as an optical SPDIF connector for older surround-sound systems that don’t use HDMI.
Finally, The TCl 8 series also sports the HDR Pro Gamma that allows you to change your TV from Dark HDR modes for your stereotypical home theater, to Bright HDR for your window-lit living room and Normal HDR for anywhere in between. This helps fight back against fading colors and blown out images but it merely puts a band-aid on the TV’s light issues.
