LG has announced a new 32-inch QHD display, the 32QK500-W, which offers an impressive mix of features for a midrange monitor for a pocket friendly price.

At first glance the 32GK500-W looks a bit understated in comparison to other popular gaming monitors, with just a touch of red along the backs of the base’s legs. The stand is a tad wobbly but not to a point where I feared for the monitor’s safety. The monitor can be adjusted by height up to 110mm, tilt 5 degrees forward or 15 degrees back, swivel 20 degrees left or right, and pivot up to a portrait orientation that you don’t see as often on displays over 27 inches. The bezels are ultra-thin and unobtrusive around the sides. It’s a basic no-frills design. This gaming monitor comes with the best display for the screen.

While not quite a full 4K display, the 32QK500-W should get you decent pixel density with a 2560 x 1440 IPS panel. There’s also support for AMD FreeSync, a 75Hz refresh rate, and an 8ms response time. It might not be the fastest display out there.

The 32GK850G is a high refresh rate monitor with Nvidia G-Sync, an advanced display technology that synchronizes refresh rates to the GPU inside GeForce GTX-powered PCs, eliminating screen tearing and minimizing stutter and input lag for a smoother, faster gaming experience.. In its base setting the refresh rate can be set up to 144Hz, but switch on Overclock (which requires a DisplayPort connection and reboot of the monitor) and the refresh rate can be set up to 165Hz. And since the monitor resolution is 2560 x 1440, you don’t have anywhere near the same GPU strain that a 4K display would cause at that refresh rate with G-Sync

Thanks to the QHD Resolution you can watch games come to life with vibrant QHD clarity and detail. Games played on this monitor are noticeably smoother and clearer when compared to game play on monitors with refresh rates of 60Hz or 75Hz. Combine the QHD clarity with smooth action and gamers will fall in love with the immersive gaming experience. The precise 2560 x 1440 resolution and impressive 31.5” screen size combine for a thrilling, immersive gaming experience. Add in the relatively restrained design for a desktop monitor with a tilting “Edge-ArcLine stand” that looks a bit nicer than your average black box screen, and you’ve got a reasonably nice-looking option for the price. Unfortunately, that forward-thinking design doesn’t extend to ports: despite the fact that it’s nearly 2019, there’s no USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 display options on the 32QK500-W; there are only a DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, and two HDMI ports.

It does lack USB-C, which is becoming a more common connection type as it offers a more minimalistic cable profile. However, you do have the option of DisplayPort, mini DisplayPort, or a pair of HDMI connectors when it comes to hooking it up to your PC. It also has a headphone jack for those who like to connect straight to their monitor’s audio and has a number of smart LG features like flicker-free operation, black stabilization, and reader mode.

There are a few nice extra touches that LG is offering here, including a “reader mode” option that reduces blue light (although the jury is still out on whether there are any harmful effects from it). LG is also offering a software option for controlling display settings like brightness, contrast, and split-screen mode, meaning that you won’t have to fiddle around endlessly with a befuddling button setup.

There’s a HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2, power out to a brick, a headphone jack, and a two-port USB hub – something that I usually miss on gaming monitors. Both USB downstream ports can quick charge devices if you turn it on in the settings menu. Since they’re on the back panel and not a side bezel they are difficult to reach, but I love being able to plug my game controller in to use with some Steam games instead of the back of my PC. All connections protrude back out of the monitor instead of facing down, making them easier to access.

Using the headphone jack is your only sound option with the 32GK850G. There are no built-in speakers. And honestly, that’s the more humane way to treat gamers, or any computer users. No one should be subjected to monitor speakers if it can be avoided.

LG has yet to announce an exact release date for the 32QK500-W, but it should go on sale sometime in the near future for 127,200.
