Design
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro sports a captivating design better than its predecessor. It is beautifully structured with sleek, shining, and slim finishing, made of an aluminum frame and back with glass front. Hence we have a premium-looking device. This device also sports smooth and curved glass edges on both front and back contribute to a sleek, elegant-looking device with thin bezels and minimal rails.
On the front is the large 6.76-inch screen with a sizable punch hole in the top left-hand corner, one that houses the selfie cam and the ToF bits for 3D face recognition. In addition, the right side hosts a red power button and a separate volume rocker, although, due to the extreme curve of the display, the buttons are somehow pushed below the equator. There’s a speaker, an IR blaster, and a microphone on the top. Finally, the bottom features a USB-C port, a speaker, a microphone, and a dual SIM tray.
Huawei Mate 40 Pro also opted for a circular rear camera bump on the back which stands out in a sea of domino-shaped modules found on many phones in the category, including Huawei’s own P40 Pro.
Display
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro is equipped with a 6.76-inch OLED display. It offers a resolution of 1344 x 2772 pixels, which is even weirder than the P40 Pro’s 1200 x 2640px, thus, resulting in 456ppi of pixel density.
This smartphone also supports a 90Hz refresh rate, the same as the P40 Pro and P40 Pro+. That can be set to Standard (60Hz), Ultra (90Hz), or Dynamic, which should adjust it based on content. It also has up to 240Hz touch sampling rate. It comes with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and 480 nits of peak brightness, hence, offering a good balance between a better viewing experience and a comfortable grip.
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro also has a 94.1% screen-to-body ratio which contributes to a more wonderful and much broader full view experience. This device also produces display color up to 16 million which gives the device a colorful, clearer, more immersive viewing experience from watching videos to playing games.
Above all, it also comes with HDR10 support, hence, it provides a much brighter image with a higher level of contrast between light and dark areas on the screen, while also taking advantage of more colors, to create a much more realistic image.
Camera
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro comes with a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50-megapixel wide-angle primary sensor with an f/1.9 lens, a 16-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle f/2.2 lens, and an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.4 telephoto lens. On the front, you get a 13-megapixel sensor with an f/2.4 wide-angle lens.
The wide angle camera has an RYYB Quad Bayer type color filter with 1.22µm individual pixel size – or 2.44µm for a 4-in-1 binned pixel. The lens in front has a 23mm equivalent focal length, alongside the f/1.9 aperture, for one reason or another, the default 12MP pictures come out with a small crop to 27mm.
In addition, the Mate 40 Pro manages to maintain a wide dynamic range across light levels, even in very low light. In comparison, many competitors are capable of recording good highlights and shadow details in bright light but struggle to do so in dim conditions. This makes the new Huawei a great option for night shots and other difficult low-light scenarios.
Performance
Huawei Mate 40 Pro powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9000 processor, which provides superfast 5G connectivity. The chipset is built on 5nm technology, the same as Apple’s A14 Bionic, but, it is an integrated 5G modem that offers a stable and fluent user experience to enable extremely fast and powerful performance, with minimal lag, so it can run intense games and multitask with ease.
Huawei Mate 40 Pro CPU is backed up by a Mali-G78 MP24 GPU coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The memory can be further expanded up to 512GB via a microSD card slot.
The Mate 40 Pro Mate 40 Pro runs on Google’s latest Android 10 operating system with EMUI 11 on top. The interface features a new visual design with trendy and rich color to enhance an excellent user experience.
Above all, for connectivity options, this smartphone has 5G, 4G FDD LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS/ A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port for charging.
Battery
Huawei Mate 40 Pro is powered by a non- removable 4400 Li-Po Battery that supports 66W fast charging. It also supports 50W Fast wireless charging and 5W Reverse wireless charging.
The Sensors onboard the Huawei Mate 40 pro include a gesture sensor, gravity sensor, IR sensor, in-display fingerprint scanner, gyroscope, compass, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, laser sensor, and a colour temperature sensor.
