Samsung Electronics is taking home theater to an entirely different level as they introduced to the new face of TV technology “The Wall” – the world’s first consumer modular MicroLED 146-inch TV – at the 2018 CES event. The modular, self-emitting MicroLED 146” TV display was featured alongside Samsung’s latest innovations in display technology, demonstrating how television is evolving to offer consumers an outstanding viewing experience while acting as a centralized connected smart hub to enhance everyday life and for beautification.

Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics said: “At Samsung, we are dedicated to providing consumers with a wide range of cutting-edge screen experiences.” This statement has been proven to be true as Samsung is known for customers satisfaction.

This massive 146-inch television comes with a  4K resolution apart from the fact that this TV comes in a larger size, the Wall is a showcase for Samsung’s newest display technology called MicroLED and the world’s first consumer modular MicroLED television, which is the latest counter to OLED screens, which LG has been touting for several years (though prices on those sets have been prohibitive until recently). Jonghee Han further continues with his speech saying  “The Wall’ represents another breakthrough. He says it can transform into any size and delivers incredible brightness, sharp picture quality, color gamut, color volume and black levels.”

What I meant by First Ever Modular TV with MicroLED.

Samsung’s “The Wall,” a 146-inch modular TV with MicroLED technology delivers incredible definition, without restrictions on size, resolution or form meaning people can expand (or reduce) the size of their screen by adding or removing modules as their needs change. The screen can adapt to serve different purposes, such as creating a wall-size display for multiple spaces. (The edges of the modules are not noticeable when content is playing on the screen.) Featuring a module-based, bezel-less design, Samsung 146-inch TV also exemplifies its self-emitting TV with micrometer (µm) scale LEDs – which are much smaller than current LEDs, and serve as their own source of light.

The MicroLED technology featured on The Wall eliminates the need for color filters or backlight, yet allows the screen to offer consumers the ultimate viewing experience. Also, the MicroLED screen excels in durability and effectiveness, including luminous efficiency, the light source lifetime and power consumption, setting the standard for future screen technology.

The MicroLED technology also has the potential for infinite contrast just like OLED TVs because each LED can turn on and off individually. The smartTV can also achieve a massive 2000 nits brightness, arguably higher than any LED LCD we’ve seen. Samsung is yet to disclose the TV’s resolution but it can achieve DVI-P3 color. There is no word yet on the pricing or availability but Samsung revealed that the MicroLED TV will ship this year.
