OPPO makes first 5G smartphone multi-party video call.

For the first time in the history of Smartphone technology, a multiparty video conferencing call was completed on a 5G network by the global smartphone technology giants, OPPO.

Oppo is a Chinese consumer electronics and mobile communications company, known for its smartphones, Blu-ray players and other electronic devices. A leading manufacturer of smartphones, Oppo was the top smartphone brand in China in 2016 and was ranked No. 8 worldwide.

OPPO’s global R&D staff makes the world’s first multiparty video call via the 5G network. It was participated by engineers from six OPPO R&D institutes worldwide on messaging platform WeChat.  The Chinese company claimed this activities took place at 12:57 am local time in Shenzhen, China.

The company is increasingly gaining attention all over the world for its classy smartphone designs, unbelievably camera quality, seamless user experience and most recently, its 5G capabilities.

According to the footage revealed by the company the video call was made on an enhanced version of the Oppo R15 Pro that supported 5G networks. The video call lasted for over 17 minutes on a 5G network with a bandwidth of 100 MHz and the first word spoken during this experience was “Hello OPPO, Hello 5G”

THrough this act Oppo becomes the first company in the world to complete 5G signalling and data connections on a smartphone. Completing the first multiparty 5G video call on a smartphone further shows OPPO’s technological edge in the development of 5G smartphones and brings the company a step closer to being one of the first manufacturers to release 5G smartphones commercially in 2019.

Oppo Founder, President and CEO, Tony Chen had earlier said during the 2018 OPPO Technology Exhibition “5G is a trend OPPO must embrace. In addition to striving to become the first manufacturer to launch 5G smartphones, OPPO’s exploration of application opportunities in the 5G+ era will ultimately determine the value of 5G. OPPO will fully integrate 5G with applications and user insights, and continuously innovate to provide users with revolutionary, necessary, convenient and seamless experiences”.

For the 5G test, OPPO used Keysight’s UXM test set and 5G New Radio (NR) network emulation solutions for protocol and RF performance validation in sub-6GHz frequency bands (FR1). Engineers operating out of OPPO’s six R&D institutes worldwide reported smooth connectivity and low latency during the video call.
