Lenovo unveiled the Yoga S940 premium laptop into its wide range of flagship laptop. The slick aluminum-bodied laptop with a 13.9-inch, wrap around display that is almost reminiscent of a Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
The Lenovo Yoga S940 ultraportable laptop offers elevated design with no compromise, featuring premium entertainment and a range of intelligent features designed to make your life easier. Enjoy hands-free login, eye-tracking AI that anticipates your needs, and more.
Design
The Lenovo Yoga S940 flagship model is also known as IdeaPad S940 notebooks. It is the Yoga S940 is the world’s first laptop featuring glass that wraps around the display for smoother edges that minimize the appearance of already miniscule bezels. T he S940 still rocks the same Iron Gray design as its other Yoga siblings,
This aluminum made device though not a 2-in-1 convertible features a slim and smooth body. The whole design is quite minimalist but alluring. Yoga S940 Measures a sleek 1.2 kg and 12.2 mm thin. It features a curved-edge -edge glass on the screen that slightly wraps around the inner sides of the lid.
There are two Thunderbolt 3 Type-C ports on the right, and another USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C port plus a 3.5mm audio socket on the left.
Display
The Yoga S940 offers a nearly bezel-less 13.9-inch display and buyers can configure it with a 4K panel as an option. It sports a display resolution up to a 3840 x 2400 pixel. The screen curves towards the edges to reduce the bulk of the bezels and give a bezel-free look to the design of the laptop.
It sports a IPS LCD screen that offers 16:10 aspect ratio. The laptop comes in two screen models such as an entry-level variant featuring a 1080p display that supports 400-nits brightness and Dolby Vision and a higher HDR400 4K model with 500-nits brightness. It is the first laptop ever to support 16:10 aspect ratio. The laptop weighs 1.2 kgs and it has a thickness of 12.2mm.
The most interesting aspect of the Lenovo’s display is the use of contoured glass. The Contour Display technology design means the edges of the display curve on the sides, just like modern smartphones, instead of meeting a thick, plastic bezel. The result is the bezels look even thinner, since they are sweeping away from the front, and the display feels nicer since there are no hard edges.
Webcam
Lenovo also used a “reverse notch” which accommodates the front-facing web camera. The webcam supports facial recognition using Windows Hello, but Lenovo is also adding some smart presence features on top. Eye tracking will allow you to move content from the display to an external monitor just by glancing, and the screen will also dim to black if you step away from the laptop.
Keyboard
The Keyboard is quite comfortable for the best typing experience at workplace and home. The keys are large and have generous spacing. And the back-lighting allowed me to burn the midnight oil without too many errors. There are two speakers to the sides of the keyboard and two more on the bottom on the unit.
Lenovo is flaunting the smart AI-based features of the laptop – something which hasn’t been seen in this range from the competition. The Yoga S940 comes with the option to automatically filter out most ambient noise and blur out distracting backgrounds during video calls. The laptop will also lock itself automatically if it detects that there’s no one in front of the screen. It will also notify if someone is snooping from behind.
Performance
Lenovo S940 features an Intel Core i5-8265U CPU, 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM, a 256GB NVMe SSD, full-HD screen, and Windows 10 Home. It can last up to 15 hours with a FHD panel and 9.5 hours with a UHD configuration.
Final Verdict
The S940’s all-metal chassis, precision cut angles, and brilliant display design significantly push the Ultrabook category forward. Toss in outstanding quad-speakers, a brilliant 4K HDR display, curved glass for the screen, and robust industrial design, and you get what is easily one of the most beautiful looking media laptops of 2019.
