Lenovo’s ThinkPad line has been widely regarded as the company’s flagship business-class laptop over the past few years. Each year has always come with an upgrade. 2018 is another year packed with powerfully built laptop which includes the Lenovo ThinkPad T580

The Lenovo ThinkPad T580 comes with big screen, strong body build, excellent keyboard, biometric security, and reliable battery life for uninterrupted day-to-day usage, you can count on this PC from Lenovo. One of the major highlights of the ThinkPad T580, though, is its double battery setup majorly the reason why Lenovo sells the ThinkPad T580 with a “Business Laptop with 27 hours of Battery Life” tagline.

Design

The ThinkPad T580 sports a functional, plastic design measuring a dimension of 365.8 mm x 252.8 mm x 19.95 mm inches and weighs 1.97 kg which is 14% lighter and 8% thinner than the previous generation. This laptop is sizable, but not too bulky making it perfect for carrying around the entire day.  The soft-touch coating, which makes it feel surprisingly luxurious at hand.

Opening the lid reveals the usual inner aesthetic you’d fine on many ThinkPads — touchpad left and right clickers/buttons with red trim at the top, well-spaced backlit keyboard, and the ThinkPad’s signature red TrackPoint rubber nub. The keyboard keys are well spread to the edges of the frame and have a key travel of 1.7 millimeters, requiring as little as 68grams of force to effect a press; similar to the ASUS Zenbook 13 UX331.

Display

This 15.6-inch laptop come with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS display. There is also an anti-glare coating that allows you to use your laptop even under direct sunlight without experiencing any distractions such as reflections. It measured 288 nits of brightness.

The 180° folding hinge on this laptop lets you lay the display completely flat, so you can easily share on-screen content with onlookers. The device also comes with a 4K display which allows for a clear image view for gaming, video streaming and more.

Keyboard

The T580 comes with a fantastic typing experience. It has a solid keyboard; the keys offer 1.5 millimeters of travel, full-sized standard layout and require 70 grams of force to actuate, meaning key presses feel satisfying and responsive. The red TrackPoint ball sits at the meeting point among the G, H, and B keys. The keys are quiet, as well, though some might find them to be on the mushy side. The slight change on the keyboard’s layout which could raise eyeball is the swapped location of the Ctrl and Fn keys on the left side. On the right side, there’s a Print Screen button jammed between the Alt and Ctrl key, which is less of a problem and just an odd place to put a Print Screen button. The 3.9 x 2.7-inch touchpad is fine for the most part, but it does not respond well to two-finger commands.

The number pad makes a welcome return to the T580’s keyboard, but it comes with some baggage. The print screen, control, alt and arrow keys are all undersize and the home row is offset to the left. While I found it only mildly annoying, the shifted keyboard could be a dealbreaker for some.

For hardware options, you get up to the latest 8th generation Intel Core i7-8250U processor accompanied by an integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 or a dedicated AMD Radeon 530 graphics card that will ensure all the power you need for your various business tasks coupled with the memory storage which features up to four different RAM capacity from 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32 GB and up to 512GB SSD + up to 1000GB HDD for storage.

Connectivity

The T580 connectivity options include 1x USB 3.0 Type-C port, 1x USB 3.0 Type-A port, 1x USB 3.0 Type-A port, HDMI, microSD card reader, combo audio jack, as well as Security Lock slot.

Audio

The Lenovo T580’s speakers sound good and got so loud that I had to turn them down when listening to tunes in a small conference room. The epic riff in the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” blared with rich guitar work, and the deep rhythm of the effects pedal reminded me why it’s such a recognizable anthem.

Battery

TheT580 is equipped with an all-day battery, a Dual battery (32 Wh + 72 Wh) up to 27 hours which lasts up to 12.2 hours depending on use. Moreover, the battery features RapidCharge technology that can provide up to 80% capacity within an hour of charging.
