Facebook Messengers App To Stop Working On Phone Running On Window 8.1

“Thank you for choosing to use Messenger,” the email reads.

“We regret to inform you that since the end of March, the app version you’re using is no longer supported and you cannot send and receive messages.

“To continue to send and receive messages from Facebook on your phone, update your Facebook app to the latest version.”

This was the email sent out to Facebook Messenger users informing them on the need to upgrade their smartphones to a higher window version (window 10) and update to the latest Facebook messenger apps because starting April 1 devices powered by Windows Phone 8.1 or earlier will not be able to use the apps.

However in order to defend their decision for the sudden end of support for older versions of the app, the company said on its blog, “Our team spends countless hours making it the best way to message your friends and family. One of the ways we continue to improve is by consistently introducing rich features, like voice and video calling, games, and bots for Messenger. Using older versions of apps means that experiences won’t work well or sometimes not at all.” In regards to this blog information I think they are still on the right pact cause with the rate at which the technology world is growing there is need for development and growth in every ramification.

Over the last year windows Phone market has seen a steady decline in users and has fallen from 1.2% market share at the end of 2015, to a new low of 0.3% by the end of Microsoft’s third financial quarter in 2016.

Despite being owned by Microsoft, Skype ended support for the platform earlier this month, following in the footsteps of WhatsApp which ends support for millions of smartphones using outdated operating systems, including iPhone 3GS and other devices running Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7 operating software also planning to end the support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 by the end of June, 2017.

The good and bad news is Windows Phone 8.1 users will still have access to Facebook through their browser, but won’t be able to message their friends without Messenger.
